Pratham UK's Annual Gala 2007 grosses £2.5million!

Pratham UK events raise £1.5million to date!

This has been a year of diversifying our ‘sources of funds’ through a larger range of events so as to reduce dependence on one main fundraising initiative - the annual ball.

May 2006… Pratham Art Auction at Christie’s…
An inaugural art auction at Christie’s sponsored by Merrill Lynch Global Private Client was attended by 400 guests including prominent artists like MF Husain, Sakti Burman and Anjolie Ela Menon raising net profits of £135,000. The event was chaired by Sangeeta Chawla Joshi and Hugh Edmeades of Christie's with valuable guidance from Mrs Usha Mittal.

June 2006.... India Business Forum (IBF)…
India Business Forum organized by students at London Business School extended its support to Pratham by donating 50% of its proceeds - raising a total of £24,000.

July 2006… Run for Pratham…
Over 80 people ran to support Pratham in the London 10K event. The runners raised £39,000, nearly double the targeted amount.

October 2006… Gulzar Baat Pashmine Ki…
The show was an audio-visual experience with excerpts from Gulzar’s films and included songs, poetry & prose. Four performances were held at London Business School, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Maharashtra Mandal and Leeds. Gulzar attended one of the shows himself and altogether over 450 guests attended. The primary purpose of these shows was to create awareness and raise funds.

January 2007… Cinnamon Club Lunch…
The Cinnamon Club Lunch was attended by 110 guests and raised £10,000. Cinnamon Club hosted the lunch and ICICI Bank sponsored the event.

March 2007… Husain painting auctioned at Christie’s NY
Following a generous donation by India’s leading artist MF Husain, the painting titled, "Woman playing Veena " fetched USD 110,000 at the Christie’s auction of Modern and Contemporary Indian Art. The funds raised from the auction are being used for the Read India campaign launched recently.

Through the Year..... Morgan Stanley NetAsia
The selection of Pratham as one of Morgan Stanley’s “Charities of the Year” helped raise £13,870 throughout the year via donations and matched funding.

Some organisational changes…
LN Mittal has resigned as trustee; PrathamUK sincerely appreciates the difference his contribution has made especially through PrathamUK’s infancy. We welcome Arvinder Mudhar, Manjiree Jog and Sonal Dhadphale who have newly been inducted as Trustees.
