Pratham News
Special Film Screening
A screening of Sarah McCarthy’s moving documentary “The sound of Mumbai” was held on Wednesday 25 May 2010 in aid of Pratham UK and The Akanksha Foundation.
About 100 guests, many of them loyal supporters of Pratham’s work in India attended the event hosted by London’s Nehru Centre. Prior to the film guests enjoyed a drinks reception with wine generously provided by Cranbrook Wine and an opportunity to mingle and enjoy the Nehru Centres most recent exhibition of Indian art. The documentary followed a group of children from a slum in Mumbai as they formed a choir and prepared for the concert of a life time in one of India’s most prestigious concert halls.
Following the screening a lively question and answer session was held with the director, Sarah McCarthy, where the audience were able to ask the question that was on everyone’s mind “what happens to these children next?” along with many others. Overall it was an extremely enjoyable evening and brought to the forefront the realities of many children’s lives in India and the need to support their dreams of a better future.
