Cinnamon Kitchen Dinner
DATE: Mar 23, 2010Cinnamon Kitchen Dinner: Bankers do it with interest!
Young, professional and large-hearted. Sounds like the dream person. Well there were 120 of these very nice young people present at Pratham’s fundraising dinner at Cinnamon Kitchen (www.cinnamon-kitchen.com) on Tuesday 23rd March.
Cinnamon Club’s latest restaurant venture in the City is a 5 minute walk from Liverpool Street station and a charming mix of minimalistic modern décor and traditional geometric patterns derived from Indian architecture. The evening kicked off with a drinks reception in the all-weather outdoor space attached to the restaurant. This was followed by a three course sit-down dinner kindly donated by Cinnamon Kitchen. The food lived up to the high standards set by Cinnamon Club and the wine donated by Shailen Patel of Cranbrook Wines was a worthy accompaniment.
A foot-tapping beatbox performance by Nathan Flutebox Lee (who has Indian ancestry by the way) livened proceedings before the start of the meal. The guest speaker, Dixit Joshi of Barclays Capital, asked his mainly banker audience to think of investment in education as yielding compound interest – a simple but very apt analogy that even non-bankers could empathise with. A short film on Pratham was screened and Vilas Gadkari, Chairman of Pratham UK spoke about Pratham’s recent awards and the fact that Pratham has reached 33 million children through its groundbreaking techniques in the Read India programme. All in all, a fun, informal evening that raised good money towards a good cause.
Can we ask for more? Yes! Right after the event we were flooded with queries for our next event for young professionals. Watch this space.
